Dear World,
There I was flipping through the channels in a Renaissance hotel in Newark, NJ bracing myself for a little sleep, an early morning, and a long day of travel afterwards.
Suddenly my heart stops as my thumb clicks to CMT. Kevin Bacon is playing Ren McCormack in Footloose. I had actually never seen this movie, and I was instantly transported into a world of dance and killer jean jackets.
The climax of the movie consists of the argument that there is a time for everything..even a time to dance. In this epic scene Kevin Bacon pulls out his bible and quotes Ecclesiastes chapter 3.
“There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens, a time to tear down, and a time to build, a time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones, and a time to gather them, a time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces. A time to seek, and a time to lose, a time to keep, and a time to cast away, a time to rend, and a time to sew, a time to be silent, and a time to speak, a time to love, and a time to hate, a time of war, and a time of peace.”
As I watch the leaves tumble into their quiet death outside my window, I mourn for a summer come and gone. Sorry. I am not much of a PSL, “It’s fall, ya’ll” kind of girl, but I realize what Ren McCormack knew along. Life comes in seasons. Let it do what it does.
So thanks Kevin Bacon for being Kevin Bacon and for reminding me there is a time for everything.
Yours,
Marie
